Environmental Impact

Socio-environmental responsibility and governance matter

“We want to be remembered not only for the revolution we created, but also for how we got here.” David Vélez, Founder and CEO of Nubank

We announced in September 23, 2020 that Nubank offset the carbon dioxide emissions of all its history.

We are the first financial institution in Brazil and in Mexico to do that.

We are committed to being carbon neutral forever

As a company, we must be aware of our impacts and our legacy on society and the environment.

Total emissions

That calculation considers all our emissions since the founding of Nubank:

CO² emissions (in tons)

100 percent of those emissions were already offset.

The importance of being digital

Because we are digital and efficient, we cause less impact on the environment than traditional banks. Nevertheless, we want to minimize it as much as possible.

CO² emissions (in tons) per million customers

Our consumption: water, power, and waste

Having a large number of employees demands a certain degree of water and energy consumption, as well as waste generation – and we want to be transparent on this matter too.

Nubank ended 2020 with

3.078

employees

Our average water consumption was

2.91

Our average energy consumption was

0.60

MWh

In 2019, we sent

84%

of the waste produced in our offices to recycling
